Mayor Beng Climaco emphasized anew that Zamboanga City does not recognize any camps except those established by legitimate security forces such as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

This, following reports that certain individuals have attempted to set up an MNLF camp in sitio Anuling in barangay Pamucutan in the west coast over the weekend. Task Force Zamboanga and PNP personnel dialogued with alleged MNLF members, afterwhich the signage was dismantled without resistance from the said individuals. The concerned group was informed that the city does not allow the setting up of such camps.

Mayor Climaco, meanwhile called on residents to remain vigilant and to immediately report the presence of suspicious individuals and help stop the establishment of MNLF camps in any part of the city.

Climaco said the Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG) has declared the action as illegal and has informed said individuals to cease from future attempts to disrupt security in Zamboanga City. “We –Christians, Moslems and Lumads – all belong to one Republic of the Philippines.

The mayor has always advocated for “One Flag, One Nation, One Zamboanga City.”
