Wanted Abu Sayyaf member arrested in Zambo City

A suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member with multiple warrants of arrest for kidnapping was nabbed by the police along R.T. Lim Boulevard, Barangay Cawa-Cawa San Jose, ZamboangaCity, on Friday.

Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9) Spokesperson, Chief Insp. Helen Galvez identified the suspected ASG member as Aizar Latip,also known as Utchung, Christopher Palomar and Abu Husni.

Galvez said that Latip has pending warrants of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by Leo Jay Principe of RTC, 9th Judicial Region, Branch 1, Isabela City, Basilan Province, on January 28, 2008.

Galvez added that Latip was involved in the Golden Harvest Plantation kidnapping on June 11, 2001.

According to Galvez,Latip belongs to the Basilan based ASG under sub-leader Commander Abogao. He is also allegedly involved in the Kidnappings of Fr. Giancarlo Bossi in Brgy Bulawan, Payao Municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay Province on June 10, 2007, Larry Tam Delos Santos, owner of Font restaurant and Farmland in Lanote Bliss, Isabela City, Basilan on December 16, 2010, and the July 10, 2007 ambush on members of the Philippine Marines at Barangay Guinanta, Albarka Municipality, Basilan Province, where14 Marine soldiers died.Ten of them were beheaded and 9 other soldiers were wounded.

The PRO9 revealed that Latip was tasked by the ASG to monitor all possible kidnapping targets in Zamboanga City.

The suspected ASG member is now under the custody of the police. (Peping Heramil)
