ISP to co-host 2018 Iftar ceremony at historic Taluksangay with Barangay Council today


The Iftar Ceremony for 2018 will be jointly hosted by Barangay  Taluksangay and the Interreligious Solidarity for Peace (ISP) today,  June 2 as the ISP enters on its 19th year of hosting the Iftar  (Pagbukah) in the holy month of Ramadan in the city, according to  Fr. Angel C. Calvo, CMF the ISP Lead Convener,

Hon. Abdurahman B. Nuño, Punong Barangay of Taluksangay, a former City Councilor and ABC President readily accepted the request of ISP  for the holding of the Iftar Ceremony at his Barangay Taluksangay.

In the co-hosting of the Iftar, Barangay Taluksangay expectedly will invite over a hundred guests, according to Nuño.

“For ISP, it will invite one hundred fifty (150) guests from the city proper for the solemn occasion,” Fr. Calvo said.

After the registration of guests at arrival time (5:00PM-5:30PM) a brief program will precede the Solemn Iftar which includes: The  Recital of the Holy Qur’an by Ustadz Haron Mohammad, this will be   followed by the acknowledgement of guests by Hja. Hannah M. Nuño for  Taluksangay and Dr. Salihmatal H. Lagbas, Ed. D. for the ISP.

Hon. Lilia M. Nuño, First Lady of Taluksangay and former Congresswoman of District II will give the welcome message and Hadji  Saleh Buhainin, Barangay Secretary will give the Brief History of   Taluksangay.

Prof. Ali T. Yacub, Al-Hj, Muslim Convener of ISP will share the Brief Significance of Iftar in the Holy Month of Ramadan which will  immediately be followed by the Prayer/Dua’a of Iftar to be led by   Imam Hadji Jubail Buhaini, Imam of the Historic Taluksangay Mosque  (This Mosque was originally built in 1885 by the founder of  Taluksangay, Hadji Abdullah Nuños Maas).The proclamation of Iftar takes place immediately after the Dua’a, Prof. Yacub explained.

The ISP Conveners will then join in the ceremonial drinking of water with the officiating Imam and other dignitaries.

The successful hosting of 2017 Iftar was held at the Islamic  Institute of the Philippines (IIP) Campus co-hosted by the Barangay  Council of Rio Hondo and IIP.
