The Department of Education has recommended the transfer of an elementary school to another place due to soil erosion.

Mina Elementary School Principal, Richard Avelido said that he earlier brought the problem to the attention of Deped which saw the need for the relocation of the school because it is located in a landslide prone area and very near a river.

The Deped said that the Mines Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources already conducted a survey of the soil and corroborated the request for the transfer of the school to another area.

According to Avelido, he has already negotiated with a lot owner who is willing to donate part of his land for the construction of the new school.        “Debe ya cambia con el escuela na otro lugar para previni problema na maga bata na futuro,” Avelido said.

Meanwhile, Philippine Volcanology Institute Chief, Engr. Allan Labayog called on all education officials to prepare a disaster plan for their respective schools.
