First batch SPES salaries release set this week

The salary of the first batch of SPES beneficiaries is set to be released sometime this week, the City Social Welfare and Development Office announced Monday, June 4.

The first batch of salary payment will cover the 1,400 college students hired under the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) who worked for a 20-day period in various capacities with the city government from April to May.

City Social Welfare Officer Socorro Rojas said the beneficiaries will receive Php 5,736.00 for the 20-day work period.

“They will receive Php 5,736.00 which is the 60% counterpart of the local government,” Rojas said.

The remaining 40% will be shouldered by the Department of Labor and Employment. In total, SPES beneficiaries will receive a salary of Php 9,554.00 for the 20-day work period.

Meanwhile, the second batch of SPES beneficiaries have completed their work period on Monday, June 4.

Composed of 1,366 high school students, the second SPES batch were employed from May to June.

Rojas said the processing of the salaries for the second batch of SPES will be done once the students submit their DTRs.

The SPES is an annual joint undertaking of the city government and the DOLE. This year, the city allocated Php 15 M for the program, leading to the increase in salaries of the beneficiaries.
