23rd Migrant Workers’ Day celebration ended successfully

More or less 500 active and inactive Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have joined the nationwide celebration of the 23rd Migrant Workers’ Day Celebration held last June 7 at Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) IX office in Canelar, this city.

In an interview with POEA IX Regional Director Marietta Bellotindos, she said that  the celebration is pursuant to RA 8042 , otherwise  known as the Magna Carta for OFWs declaring every June  7 as Migrant Workers’ Day.

"This year's theme "Tapat na Serbisyo para sa  mga OFWs" commemorates the continued programs and  protection of OFWs rights and their welfare in recognition of their contribution to Philippine economy," Bellotindos said.

Furthermore, Bellotindos added that this also aims to recognize the noble efforts and sacrifices of Overseas Filipino Workers dubbed as Modern Heroes of the country.

The celebration started with a short program followed by games for the OFWs, raffles and gifts were also awarded to the winners.

Aside from these, partner agencies like the TESDA has also offered free services to the OFWs.

"Presently, there are more than 10 million Filipinos working abroad,"Bellotindos stressed.
