All provincial and regional offices of the Department of Agriculture (DA) kicked-off Monday, June 18, the nationwide celebration of the 120th anniversary of the said government agency.

The Department of Agriculture is responsible for the promotion of agricultural and fisheries development and growth.

In an interview with DA IX, Asst. Regional Director for Policy Planning Research, Melba Wee, said that the weeklong activity started with a sports fest of different ball games and competitions to include volleyball, basketball, bowling and cheerdance competition to be participated by DA employees and its attached agencies.

“Aside from these, we will also be conducting our annual blood letting activity”, Wee said.

Moreover, Wee said that the anniversary will be highlighted with the awarding of the outstanding DA employees and recognition of retirees.

“We will be giving recognition to 60 DA employees for their longetivity or tenure with the organization”, Wee said.

Four employees will be awarded for 40 years of service, 6 for 35 years, 39 for 30 years, 1 for 20 years, 9 for 15 years and 1 for 10 years of service. They will receive cash incentives, a ring and/or pendant from the department.

“For 120 years, DA has continuously implemented farm to market road. This is not just farm-to-market road but a concrete one. At least we have given dignity to the fisherfolks and farmers. We also do have the Production Loan Easy Access to both farmers and fishermen and the numerous livelihood projects we have distributed around the region, to include the seeds and seedlings to both farmers and fishemen and the motorized boats we distributed,” Wee said.

The regionwide activity will culminate on Thursday with the awarding ceremony. (Kikay Dongallo)
