Perez vows surprise drug test on barangay officials

Liga ng mga barangay president, Councilor Jerry Perez yesterday vowed to conduct a random drug test among various barangay leaders in the 98 barangays.

Perez, who attended the mass oath taking of more than 636 barangay kagawads and eight barangay chairmen at the Zamboanga City Coliseum in Tetuan, promised to conduct the unannounced drug testing not only among barangay kagawad and chairmen, but also on barangay tanods, barangay intelligence network, treasurers, secretaries and other employees of the barangay.

He warned all barangay officials against selling or using illegal drugs.

“Ay planta yo canila caso. Tiene ya gane yo ya kita maga kagawad y tanod quien envuelto na droga,” Perez said.

Perez said no less than the Police Regional Office 9 Commander, Chief Supt. Billy Beltran announced that at least nine barangay officials are now in the list of the police for being involved in the illegal drugs trade.

“Man coordinate tamen yo con el police para mira el diila lista y tambien con el maga residente na barangay para man monitor si quien deste maga barangay lider el envuelto na droga,” Perez added.

He said that after the oath taking, he will already assess which barangay will be the first to undergo the series of drug testing. SS
