Nutrition month celebration kicks off


Zamboanga City kicks off the 44th Nutrition month celebration today, July 3 with a series of activities aimed to contribute to improve food and nutrition security by increasing access to diversified source of food for families in the community.

Themed “Ugaling Magtanim, Sapat na Nutrisyon Aanihin,” the activities will be spearheaded by the City Health Office and will kick off with a motorcade at 8 a.m. from the CHO compound in Pettit Barracks to the Tetuan Central School where the opening program will follow with Mayor Beng Climaco gracing the event.

CHO officer-in-charge Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite said highlight of the month-long celebration will be the contest “Jardin de Gulay na mi Casa” to emphasize the importance of planting vegetables for home consumption and to provide the family members with supply of vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals.

Initially 11 barangays have submitted entries and these include Sta. Maria, Tumaga, Tugbungan, Tigbalabag, Lubigan, Culianan, Tulungatung, San Roqoue, Ayala and Talon-talon, according to Miravite.
