The Philippine Coast Guard Zamboanga Station is set to install three radar systems in its area of jurisdiction to strengthen its maritime security.

Lt/Cmdr. Alvin Dagalea, Coast Guard Zamboanga commander, disclosed the radar systems will be installed in barangays Rio Hondo, San Ramon all in Zamboanga City and in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.

Dagalea said the PCG Headquarters in Manila has appropriated funds for the purchase of the modern radar systems and will be installed soon in the areas mentioned.

According to Dagalea, at least 14 radar systems will be installed all over Southwestern Mindanao and three of these radars will be under his jurisdiction.

He said trained personnel will be assigned in the radar system to monitor incoming and outgoing boats in his AOR.

“Si taki ya el maga radar ay manda kita man refresher course con el maga trained personnel para queda sila mas efectivo,” Dagalea said.

He said the radar can help locate even small boats in distress as long as it is within signal range.

He said these modern facilities will help boost their maritime security and capabilities.
