Woman dead, cop, one other hurt in two shooting incidents

A woman was killed while two others, including a policeman,were injured in two separate shooting incidents in Zamboanga City on Monday night.

Killed was Eva Lariaga, 27, a resident of Barangay Curuan.She sustained fatal gunshot wound in her neck while her business partner, SPO1 Fredie Teves, 42, married, a resident of Barangay Lunzuran, and a liaison officer assigned at the Police Regional Office 9, sustained gunshot wound in his hand.

Despite being injured, Teves was still able to drive his Isuzu Crosswind to Brent Hospital to seek medical assistance.

Police Station 8 report shows that SPO1 Teves and his business partner, Lariaga, went to collect debt from Evelyn Salvador of Flamingo, Upper Calarian.

Probers said that upon reaching the place, the policeman stopped his vehicle to inquire from local residents, directions to the house of Salvador.

Two suspects riding-in-tandem on a motorcycle suddenly passed-by and fired at the victims, killing Lariaga.

SPO1 Teves, who is now recuperating in a hospital, told PO2 AldrenAhamad, investigator-on-case,that he was able to identify the triggerman as a certain Bhakie.

The incident is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, Isabelo Kilat y Baterna, 40, married, a native of Imelda Municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay Province, was shot in Purok 1B, Recodo, Zamboanga City.

Isabelo sustained a gunshot wound in his right foot and a slight wound in the head but managed to run to Police Station 9 to report the incident.

Initial police investigation shows that prior to the incident, the victim and his companions were having a drinking spree in their boarding house.

Kilat left the house and went to buy some cigarette from a nearby store.This is when he was suddenly shot by the still unidentified suspect.

A certain Mohawarjan Sapayani y Maruji, alias Jan-Jan, 22, single, also of the said place, was held by authorities for cleaning the place of the incident with water and collected the spent shells,even before the police were able to conduct an ocular inspection at the area.

Sapayani will be charged for obstruction of justice while a follow-up investigation is being conducted to identify and arrest the suspect. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
