A municipal vice mayor in the southern part of Mindanao was shot dead by two unidentified riding-in-tandem gunmen along Governor Alvarez Street, Barangay Camino Nuevo, this city yesterday evening.

Police said the government official suffered three fatal gunshot wounds in the chest and was rushed to Zamboanga Doctor’s Hospital by his aides but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Probers disclosed that the vice mayor was on board a color black Innova car bearing plate number KDV 514 which was driven by his daughter-in-law, Pola Grace Alvarez y Pascual, along with his mother and security escort, PO1 Abdulmurib Ilahan Hadjirul.

According to the investigators, the group of the vice mayor came from a mall along Governor Camins Avenue and was already on their way home in Barangay Tetuan, passing the stretch of Governor Alvarez Street when the shooting occurred.

Police said that due to traffic congestion, the car slowed down upon reaching in front of an insurance firm when the riding-in-tandem suspects sidled the car of the vice mayor and immediately riddled it with bullets before speeding towards the downtown area.

The driver immediately rushed the vice mayor to the nearest hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team processed the place of incident where they recovered 4 spent shells of Caliber .45 Pistol.

Motive of the incident is still under investigation while the identity of the suspects remains unknown as of this report. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
