PRC Zambo urges brgy. officials to organize blood donations

Officials of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Zamboanga Chapter headed by Administrator Joseline Fernandez is urging barangay officials of the city’s 98 barangays to organized bloodletting activities in their respective barangays.

Fernandez said that she expects that each barangay should come up with regular bloodletting activities in coordination with Philippine Red Cross in order for them to help augment the supply of blood in PRC and even other government hospitals.

“We are encouraging the barangay officials to conduct mobile bloodletting activities in their respective communities. This is one way of helping augment the supply in our blood banks in Red Cross,” stressed Fernandez.

The PRC Administrator disclosed that as compared to previous year’s donation, a considerable number of local residents are now donating blood.

However, she explained that due to many patients needing blood, the Red Cross often runs out of  common bloods like types O, A, and B.

“Hence, the support of our barangay officials and the local populace are needed as we appeal them to donate blood preferably at least every three months to be able to continuously support our blood bank,” Fernandez emphasized.

The PRC-Zamboanga City Chapter likewise sought the help of media by helping convince the people to voluntarily donate blood.

The Red Cross official stressed that by donating blood, one becomes healthier and younger as new blood cells are developed.

Meanwhile, the PRC administrator also assured that they are working 24/7 in order to be ready and able to assist anyone who needs blood. (Allyssa Leeanne Rebollos, Joey Francis Gumahad, WMSU interns)
