PDFPrintE-mail

Ninety (90) Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) were trained by the Gender and Development Unit of the Office of the City Mayor in collaboration with the City Health Office last August 6 & 7, 2018.

The activity dubbed as Training on WHO – Child Growth Standards for Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), is a continuous and a regular program to enhance their capacities and address the gaps and knowledge, skills and values in performing the BNS roles to better contribute to the improvement of nutrition situation in the barangays.

BNS program is an approach for providing each barangay with a trained community worker to deliver basic nutrition and related health services. It involves the recruitment, training, deployment and supervision of BNS as mandated by the Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1569 wherein there should be one (1) BNS in every barangay to monitor the nutritional status of children and/or link communities with nutrition and related service providers.

PD 1569 also mandated the National Nutrition Council (NNC) to administer the program in cooperation with local government units. (GAD PR)
