The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has now started a probe on why a huge number of drug cases filed by police investigators in the courts have been dismissed.

According to ZCPO public information officer (PIO) Sr. Insp. Shellamie Chang, they are currently studying and reviewing more than 700 cases of drug pushers and addicts who were arrested by different police stations.

Chang said that out of the 700 drug cases, only 69 drug charges have been filed with the City Prosecutor’s Office.

What made it worse is that the City Police Office discovered that 16 cases have been dismissed in the prosecutor level while 9 other cases have been dismissed in the court level.

The police PIO said that investigators handling the said cases are being strictly scrutinized on how they handled the drug cases and why a big number of them were dismissed by the courts.

“Si palta sila training ay manda canila ole man undergo retraining. Tiene ba laxity si porque ya man palpak diila caso,” Chang wondered.

Chang said that if these police investigators are found guilty and accountable for the dismissal of the drug cases they will be immediately sanctioned and also necessary administrative charges will be filed against them.

But, Chang explained that the dismissal rate in the said drug charges is way below compared to the previous years. SS
