Celso recommends additional rice subsidy for barangays

PDFPrintE-mail

Congressman Celso Lobregat has recommended to the National Food Authority (NFA) the probation of additional rice supplies being sold in the different barangays of Zamboanga City.

This came after Lobregat noticed that the rice supply being sold in the ongoing Rice Distribution Program or "Tagpuan Day" of NFA is not sufficient to cater the volume of residents who flock to their respective barangays to avail of the cheaper rice.

Despite the allocation of 150 sacks per barangay at five kilos per person, serving 1,500 families per distribution, many residents who were not able to avail of the coupon system in the distribution of rice still flock to their barangay hall to buy rice.

"NFA cannot serve everybody because they have to limit their allocation per barangay in order also to be able to provide other areas equal opportunities. However, I am trying to negotiate with NFA management here if we can possibly increase their allocations to benefit more constituents," Lobregat said.

Yesterday, Lobregat continued assisting NFA in their rice distribution at Barangays Zone 1 and Zone 2 where poor residents lined-up despite the rainy weather. (Dexter Yap)
