(2nd shooting incident just in four days) PUJ driver shot dead by riding-in-tandem

A  Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) driver was shot dead yesterday afternoon by motorcycle riding gunmen along the highway in Barangay Kasanyangan, this city, barely four days after another middle-aged man was gunned down in Barangay Sta. Catalina on Tuesday.

Police investigators identified the fatality as Mohammad Tawasil-Arabani, 36, married and a resident of Pagkasilasa Drive,  Barangay Talon-Talon.

The shooting victim sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the left portion of the head, killing him on the spot.

Based on police report Arabani was driving a PUJ, with still several passengers onboard, and was heading towards the city proper coming from Talon-Talon shortly before 4:30 p.m. and upon reaching Kasanyangan road, near the Rojo Compound, two riding-in-tandem gunmen appeared and shot him at close range.

Police investigators told Zamboanga Today that the riding-in-tandem suspects were obviously tailing Arabani and when the PUJ slowed down near the Rojo Compund, the assailants sidled up with the passenger jeepney where the back rider pulled a pistol and fired a shot hitting the victim right in the head.

Arabani was fatally hit, and since the passenger jeepney was still in motion, it bumped onto a concrete wall before the victim finally lost his breath.

Fortunately, no one of the passenger onboard were hurt.

The gunmen immediately sped away onboard their motorcycle after the shooting.

As of press time yesterday, police authorities are still conducting a deeper probe on the incident.

It can be recalled that just last Tuesday before midnight a 35-year-old man was shot dead in Sta. Catalina

The suspect also remains unidentified

These shooting incidents happened even with the strict implementation of security measures of police and Task Force Zamboanga in the entire city. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
