PMMSN-BFAR 9, ZC get ‘Best Chapter’ award


The Philippine Marine Mammal Stranding Network Inc. (PMMSN), a non-profit network of professionals and volunteers nationwide that responds and collects data on stranded marine mammals, has recognized the BFAR-9 and Zamboanga City chapter as the best PMMSN chapter for 2018.

City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola, whose office is a network member, said the PMMSN acknowledged BFAR-9 and contributions to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of stranded mammals.

Dr. Christopher Luyong of the City Veterinarian Office is recognized as one of the Outstanding Veterinarians within the Network for medical management provider this year.

The PMMSN Zamboanga City chapter is composed of the offices of the City Agriculturist, City Environment and Natural Resources, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Zamboanga City State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZCSCMST), Coast Guard and BFAR 9.

The recognition of the best chapters and outstanding veterinarians forms part of the PMMSN’s 13th year celebration with the theme “Convergence of PMMSN members through Engaged Participation in 5R’s (Rescue, Rehabilitation, Release, Repository and Research).

The PMMSN has been conducting national symposiums annually to have a platform for sharing experience, skills, knowledge, IEC materials, plans and build consensus and networking. (OCVET PR)
