Congressman Celso Lobregat is urging the local law enforcement authorities and the public to increase vigilance in today’s grand street parade which is expected to draw a huge crowd.

The solon said that both local and foreign tourists are usually seen in such kind of activity where hoards of people from all walks of life are expected to witness the annual event in Zamboanga City.

The Zamboanga City government already barred those attending the Fiesta Hermosa Festival activities from carrying backpacks and wearing hooded jackets. Those who want to participate and witness today’s event and those who will visit the Fort Pilar Shrine have to pass a strict search before being allowed inside the small compound surrounded by soldiers and police personnel.

Authorities also instructed telecommunication companies to cut all mobile phone signals for hours during today's parade and tomorrow’s grand fiesta procession.

“Security is the concern of everybody, we must be vigilant at all times. Our devotion to Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar all through the years has been our beacon of hope amidst the trials and adversities,” Lobregat said.

Lobregat also enjoins the public to participate and witness the remaining activities of the Hermosa festival.

“I urge our people to continue reverence to the La Virgen del Pilar to always lead us to Jesus. Our steadfast devotion to the Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, all through the years, has been our beacon of hope amidst the trials and adversities. No matter how intricate and complicated the challenges are, we, the good, will always prevail,” Lobregat said. (Dexter Yap/PR)
