Maguindanao second district Representative and senatorial aspirant Zajid “Dong” Mangudadatu of the ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) said that it was never his intention to attend last Sunday’s press conference of the Team Climaco, stressing that he is fully supporting the mayoralty bid of Congressman Celso L. Lobregat, whom he considers a close friend, colleague and even a mentor in the House of Representatives.

Asked by local reporters on what his presence means when he attended the press conference of Team Climaco under incumbent Mayor Beng Climaco, “Well, I do not kow why I ended up there in the presscon, but what is important is that it is very clear that I am supporting the mayoralty bid of Congressman Lobregat, his plaform of governance, and above all the priority programs of our President Rodrigo Duterte, and all our candidates in the administration party,” was his straightforward reply.

Rep. Mangudadatu said that as members of President Duterte’s ruling party, it is incumbent upon all of them to support their own candidates starting from the national level down to the provincial and city level.

The Manguindanao solon also said that aside from being a colleague of Rep. Lobregat, he considers the Zamboanga congressman as a very close friend, who is a mentor to him during their days in the 16th and 17th Congress.

“Congressman Lobregat and I have worked together in many important works and legislative measures in the House of Representatives which focused on how to bring more progress, development, peace and security for the entire Mindanao region,” Mangudadatu emphasized.

The congressman and senatorial aspirant was here in Zamboanga City last Sunday as the guest speaker during the induction ceremonies of the Zamboanga City Golden Eagle’s Club held at the Astoria Regency in Pasonanca.

Mangudadatu and Lobregat were also both inducted as new members of the prestigious Eagle’s Club.

He added that he is very happy to be visiting Zamboanga City as he noted the warm and hospitality of the Zamboagueño people.

The congressman also expressed hope that the people in Zamboanga Peninsula, including the island provinces of Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi will help him in the senatorial race considering that he truly belongs to Mindanao.

Mangudadatu said that the senatorial aspirants under the administration party enjoy a “plus factor” since they are identified with President Duterte, who enjoys overwhelming support from the masses. (Jemuel E. Mojica)
