Gun-for-hire killed in shootout with cops

An alleged notorious gun-for-hire was killed in an encounter with combined police forces at Datoc Street, Purok Bougainvilla, Barangay San Jose, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur (ZDS) province yesterday morning.

Police Regional Office 9 (PRO9) spokesperson chief Insp. Helen Galvez identified the fatality as Epipanio Inso y Lumisay alias “Yong-Yong”, of legal age and a resident of Langilan, San Miguel Municipality, ZDS.

Galvez told Zamboanga Today that an intelligence information confirmed that the suspect was about to commit a crime in the said area.

A dragnet operation was launched by personnel of the Regional Intelligence Division 9, 902nd Maneuvering Company of Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 and Zamboanga Del Sur Police Provincial Office Intelligence Branch to arrest the suspect.

Accordingly, police officers stopped the suspect and was about to frisk him when he pulled out a gun and engaged the authorities in a brief gunfight that resulted to his death.

“No casualty was reported on the part of the police,” the police spokesperson said.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered from the crime scene a caliber .45 pistol; three magazine assembly for the said caliber; 24 rounds of ammunition for the same caliber; an MK2 fragmentation hand grenade;three magazine assembly and 10 rounds of ammunition for a 9mm caliber pistol; 19 rounds ofa 12-gauge shotgun; a fired cartridge case of a caliber 40 pistol and a fired cartridge case of a 9mm caliber pistol.

The body of the suspect was brought to the funeral parlor for the post mortem examination. (Eugene A. Lasprilla)
